Father's Day Weekend

Happy Belated Father's Day to any dads reading out there. We spent our father's day weekend doing a couple different things.

On Saturday Drew and Daddy headed out for one of their near-weekly Daddy/Drew bonding trips. Bill was trying to come up with something a little different for them to do this weekend, since they've seen most of Tucson's sights at least once, and he decided on the ostrich farm near Picacho Peak that we pass on the way to Phoenix. Yes, an ostrich farm. The first time we drove by on the way to Vegas we thought "Hmm, don't see those every day!" It was a bit of a drive for the boys (past Tucson), but Bill said it was definitely worth the trip. You see, this ostrich farm features way more than just ostriches. Drew had the opportunity to feed and pet deer, donkeys, and lorikeets in addition to the ostriches of course. As I think you'll be able to tell from the pictures, he thought this was fantastic!

You can see Picacho Peak in the background of this picture. It's famous for being the site of the westernmost battle (really a skirmish) of the Civil War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Picacho_Pass).

Drew was funny about the lorikeets. Apparently they were so anxious for his food he thought they were going to bite him, which, of course, they didn't. But when they got home Drew was telling stories about how the lorikeets "got his hands" (Drew-speak for getting licked by dogs and cats usually). Bill assured me that Drew was full of it, but Drew was sticking to his story that the little birdies got him.

Drew in front of the huge monster trucks that you can take a tour of the property on. He gave a mixed review of the monster truck ride saying that going over the big bumps was "kinda fun but kinda scary."

Sunday we spent some family time at the indoor pool's splashtime for kids, got Bill a breakfast burrito from his favorite burrito place (imagine he wanted one of those instead of the banana pancakes I considered making), and just relaxed around the house until heading out for dinner. Nothing too fancy, but great fun just the same.

I'm so grateful to have a partner in parenting like Bill. Drew just adores his Daddy and I have to say I do too.
